Estimated bids ranged from £40,000 and up

On May 18, 2024, a Nissan Skyline GT-R was offered at an auction held by Iconic Auctioneers in Northamptonshire, England. The car, which was not a stock car but a tuned car, was well-kept and was in beautiful condition even though it had over 100,000 km on the odometer. The winning bid price was …….

The R33 Skyline GT-R was introduced in 1995

This model, often referred to as the “R33GT-R” by “Skyline GT-R” fans, is a model with the exact model number BCNR33. The world premiere of the R33 Skyline was a sensational event in this sense as well. The world premiere of the R33 Skyline was a sensational event in this sense as well.

The models presented in January 1995 included the V-Spec and V-Spec N1 in addition to the standard models. The model offered by Iconic Auctioneers this time is its 1995 model, which makes it the oldest R33 GT-R (hereafter: R33) model. Nevertheless, the white body color, the condition of the interior, and of course the mechanism with the RB26DETT engine inherited from the previous BNR32 model are all in good condition, thanks to the previous owner’s good management.

The vehicle’s weight increased due to the larger body size.

In the R33, the car’s weight increased to 1530 kg due to the larger body size and other factors, which prompted the development team to increase the engine’s output. The parts were extensive, including increasing the boost pressure of the twin turbochargers, improving the compression ratio, reviewing valve timing and intake/exhaust efficiency, and upgrading the ECU to 16 bits, but the maximum output remained unchanged at 280 ps.

This was because, at that time in Japan, a gentlemen’s agreement was signed with the government among the manufacturers, which stipulated that the rated output of new models would be limited to 280 hp. There could not have been a more inconvenient gentleman’s agreement for selling sports cars in Japan, but with the R33, it was rumored that the RB26DETT engine would instantly produce a maximum output of 300 hp once it left the manufacturer’s line.

The maximum torque of 368 Nm was also a very attractive figure for a sports car of the time. The GT-R was a car to be reckoned with, and the Nissan name was aptly chosen. The GT-R made fans recognize Nissan as a manufacturer that could not be underestimated.

One with various tuning

The R33 on display has been further tuned in a variety of ways that are not found on the stock vehicle. The cockpit area has been reinforced with carbon fiber backing, and the engine compartment has been beautifully detailed to the point that one would want to exhibit it at a motor show.

Mechanically, the original turbo was installed with factory settings, and the exhaust is run through a BLITZ Nur-Spec exhaust pipe via an equal-length downpipe, which was released by RHD Japan in 2020. Other tuning options over the years are detailed in the comprehensive history file that accompanies the car on display. Enkei RPF1 aluminum wheels and Yokohama Advan AD08 tires are in excellent condition.

With 106,600 km on the odometer, Iconic Auctioneers offered an estimate of £40,000-£45,000 for this R33 Skyline GT-R, but the sale settled at a lower price of £37,125. Should we expect the popularity of Japanese-made sports cars to really take off soon? It is difficult to say.
