In prioritizing family
Unique owners and their cars visit a tuning shop specializing in the Nissan GT-R, Nissan’s leading sports car. CREWCH in Mie Prefecture is one such shop. We introduce Mr. Koyama, who has been longing for a GT-R for more than 20 years. What is the intense GT-R life he spends with his long-sought-after R35?
From Mie to Chiba to meet his precious partner
At the age of 20, after agonizing over whether to choose a Toyota A70 ‘Supra’ or a Nissan R32 ‘Skyline GT-R’, he chose the former. However, after comparing it with a friend’s R32, he regretted that he should have chosen the R32. He was thinking of getting a GT-R next, but his first child was born when the R33 debuted and his second child was born when he decided to buy an R34. In the end, family came first and he never got out of sedans and minivans. After 20 years without a GT-R, it wasn’t until 2017 that Koyama got his wish and got his hands on an R35.
“When my children had grown up and I started looking for a GT-R this time around, I caught information on the internet that Chiba Nissan was selling a then 2-year-old (2015 model) R35 for 7.5 million yen as a highlight of its 75th anniversary. 1 owner with more than 10,000 km on the clock. It was about 1.5 million yen cheaper than the used car market price at the time, so I immediately called and asked to keep it, and hurriedly traveled from Mie to Chiba to purchase it.”
He had also asked CREWCH to look for a car, but was unable to find one that met his requirements, so he had no choice but to purchase it in Chiba. However, he asked CREWCH to handle everything from maintenance to tuning, as they are the closest to his home, handle the largest number of GT-Rs, and are well-versed in customization.
Exterior mods are very particular
The current specs are a Top Secret M17 front bumper set/GT front wide fenders/Side Diffuser Ver.1, combined with a GT wing from Kansai Service for a visually focused look. To match this image, RAYS VOLK RACING G025 wheels were chosen on the advice of President Kuruuchi.
The engine has been replaced with an original CREWCH ECM and the exhaust system has been replaced with an original muffler with valves, but he is “fully satisfied with the speed and sound”.
“I installed the aero parts first because I had a regret that I got married just before I assembled the aero parts on the Supra and had to sell it. So I want to do whatever I want, no matter how much it costs. With this in mind, I started with the exterior first. Anyway, I wanted to make it look strict, and the parts were decided after consulting with President Kuruchi. I like the look of the rear wing sticking out when viewed from the front at an angle.
The rear underbody was left stock because he thought it wouldn’t be seen much from behind, but he is now thinking that if he goes this far, it might not be voluminous enough. The time spent thinking about this and that is also enjoyable. Mr. Koyama is enjoying the changes as he customizes the car to its ideal shape. He is also enjoying his GT-R life to the full, taking part in circuit driving and fully utilizing the R35’s performance. The fun never seems to end.
