The 300E appeared at the W124 meeting one month after delivery

Despite its debut in 1985, the first-generation Mercedes-Benz W124 “E-Class” still has many deep-rooted fans and is still regarded as a classic car. The annual nationwide offline meeting organized by the “W124-CLUB-JAPAN” was held at the Toyota Museum in Aichi Prefecture on December 10, 2023. Among the more than 40 cars that entered the event, we would like to introduce a new owner in his 20s who participated in the event after only one month since taking delivery of his car.

The owner of the vehicle is a young man in his 20s

The 1990 “300E” was a parallel-imported car with the license plate number “Numazu 33” and a sunroof, looking at the car alone, you would think it was a veteran owner who has been driving it since new, but to our surprise, the owner is a young man in his 20s, Mr. Nakagawa.

Mr. Nakagawa’s grandfather originally drove imported cars, and perhaps due to that influence, he had a yearning for the culture of the 1980s and 90s in general.

At the time of the interview, his beloved 300E had only been in the shop for a month. He happened to be browsing a flea market app when he found this car for sale with a license plate number from that time, which he could take over.

“I contacted the owner and was told that if the car did not sell here, he would put it up for sale, so I decided to buy it, thinking that I had no choice but to take over the license plate number,”

So he suddenly became the owner of a classic W124.

“I would like to gradually restore it to the specifications of that time”

The W124 was originally one of the cars that he had always dreamed of someday driving. The Mazda Atenza, which he purchased when he first obtained his driver’s license, was also chosen as an inexpensive car with a relatively large body so that he would have no trouble driving a W124 or similar car later on.

By the way, the price was also quite a bargain, and while I won’t divulge the direct price, you’d be surprised what you hear. This is another episode where one cannot help but feel a sense of destiny.

Because it has only been in his possession for a month, he has only changed the oil and tires. However, since the car is a rare parallel-imported model with the same serial number as the car at the time, he would like to restore it to its original specifications if possible, and as a start, he would like to replace the mismatched external audio system with an original one.
