Ford’s radical sports model for victory

Even after withdrawing from the Japanese market in 2016, many owners have fallen in love with the character of these frugal cars, and the European Ford is still very popular. On November 4, 2023, the “European Ford Meeting 2023” was held by enthusiastic users of Ford vehicles. The “Sierra RS Cosworth” was the one that dominated the surroundings with its powerful appearance that is typical of a homologation model.

Thoroughly enhanced by the prestigious Cosworth

Ford of Great Britain and Ford of Germany, which started as local subsidiaries of Ford in the United States, eventually developed their models tailored to their respective national circumstances, and in 1967 the two companies merged to form the Ford of Europe. While Ford of Europe also produced practical cars of high quality, it also produced many radical derivatives based on these cars for competition use.

One of the most iconic sports Fords of the 1980s is the Ford Sierra RS Cosworth, which debuted in 1986 as a Group A homologation derivative based on the Sierra, Ford of Europe’s middle sedan that debuted in 1982. The Sierra RS Cosworth debuted in 1986 as a derivative model based on the Sierra, a European Ford middle sedan that debuted in 1982. As the name suggests, its contents were thoroughly enhanced by the prestigious Cosworth.

He has been a one-owner since the car was new and numbered

“Not long after the new car debuted, I imported it privately, got the plates through gas inspection, and did everything myself, and I’ve been driving it ever since,”

said the owner, Mr. “Sierra On-chan”.

“I had the help of Cowan there to get this car. That’s why I bought it in Scotland. Oh, do you know who Cowan is?”

What? Don’t tell me it’s that rally driver Andrew Cowan? He drove Mitsubishi’s “Lancer GSR Evolution”, the Southern Cross Rally, and Rally Art Europe’s …….

“Oh yeah, I knew him, even though he passed away in 2019.”

“A long time ago, I was a rally mechanic for Mitsubishi, traveling all over the world. Before that, I raced motorcycles and automobiles in Japan myself.”

I was surprised at the number of strong episodes, but it made a lot of sense.

“This Sierra RS Cosworth is a 1986 model, the year it debuted. I brought it to Japan, put the license plate number on it myself, and since then it has been one owner. These days, I only occasionally participate in events like this when I’m approached by someone I know.”

So it was an unexpected stroke of luck to meet Mr. “Sierra On-chan”‘s Sierra RS Cosworth on this day.

“It’s my car, so basically I don’t let other people tinker with it. I still manage to get the parts, so I do everything myself.”

The owner of the Gr. A homologation model that has raged in touring car racing and WRC is a rally mechanic who used to compete in the top categories. It was no accident that this white Sierra RS Cosworth was giving off an extraordinary aura at the event.
