CR-X Del Sol as his car again

The main feature of the Honda CR-X Del Sol is its retractable hard top. This was Honda’s answer to the need to combine the fun of open-air motoring with the weather resistance of a coupe. Mr. Monya (文屋) purchased the CR-X Del Sol again, which was his favorite car during his college days, and loves it as his favorite car. We asked him about its appeal.

Participated in the 15th Jibiken meeting

On April 20, 2024, the 15th Jibiken Meeting was held in the parking lot of Lake Sagami Resort Pleasure Forest. Mr. Monya, who attended this meeting, came in a 1992 Honda CR-X Del Sol.

When asked about why he bought this car, he said that he wanted to drive his CR-X Del Sol again, which he drove when he was a college student, and that if he missed this timing, the price might go up …… through a community website message board. He said he got it in 2019. He had ridden the electric roof version when he was a college student, but this time he chose the manual roof version based on his experience that it is tricky if it breaks down. Mr. Monya was planning to attend this meeting in a Mitsubishi “Toppo BJ,” but due to sudden trouble, he ended up attending a CR-X Del Sol at short notice.

He owns four sets of wheels

After purchasing the CR-X Del Sol, in addition to the initial repairs, he added customization such as US headlights, taillights, side markers, emblems, coilovers, a Fujitsubo muffler, and a Moon Eyes steering wheel, and also owns four sets of wheels.

“Wheels are like shoes; Honda wheels in the early 1990s and other years were pretty deep, and there are a ridiculous number of options. There are a lot of genuine Japanese wheels alone, but when you look for things like genuine optional wheels from overseas, it’s a crazy amount of stuff.”

There are many difficulties in obtaining parts

When it comes to parts, one would think that the problem could be solved with parts shared with the sister car, the Civic, but many exterior parts are exclusive because the car was made during the bubble era, and the Delsol, which sells fewer units than the Civic, still faces many difficulties when it comes to parts.

“There are no parts at all. Sometimes parts are sold on Yahoo! Auctions or overseas websites, and when that happens, everyone gets together to buy them. Parts such as headlights and window regulators are finished after an accident. Rear window regulators are also quite difficult if they break. Other than that, many original parts require a lot of work, but I like the high level of originality.”
