The couple owns two Honda Kei-cars with scissor-doors
A 2017 Honda S660 stands out with its blue body and lifted scissor-doors. The owner is from the United States. She came to Japan because she loved the Japanese culture, met and married her Japanese partner, and enjoys the car life in this country.
A sports car you can drive every day and play with
She was initially looking for a Honda Beat instead of an S660. However, his partner, who drives a scissor-doors version of the Beat, suggested an S660 because a Beat is old. After researching about an S660 on the Internet and other sources, she liked it and bought the S660, saying, “This looks like fun”.
“It’s like a go-cart and very fun. Even though it is a Kei-car, it has a turbo and can go fast. I like corners, but I am afraid of falling into valleys on mountain roads. Last year I ran in the Tsukuba Circuit open track day. I like it because it is a sports car that I can play with, that I can participate in light tuning car events, and that I can drive regularly”.
It’s cool to open a scissor-door anywhere
Her S660 is equipped with a Mugen front lip spoiler, rear under spoiler, front fenders, side steps, and rear wing. The rear wing was installed by herself. The carbon fiber decals on the front and rear hoods and wheels were also applied by her.
In addition, mirror covers with LED indicators, HKS mufflers, etc. were installed, but basically the exterior customization was done to Mugen specifications without destroying the original lines.
And the most interesting thing about this S660 is the scissor-doors conversion. We asked her why she decided to customize it to scissor-doors.
She said with a laugh, “It was cool and I didn’t want to be left out because I was surrounded by scissor-doors”.
Her partner installed the purchased door parts, and although some modifications to the fenders were necessary, the parts were designed specifically for the exact car model, so there was no need for extensive sheet metal work.
“I like it. It’s cool, and I even open the scissor-doors in grocery stores and other places where there’s enough space”.
It can also be opened horizontally as usual if you want to
These scissor-doors open sideways like a conventional door.
“It opens just enough for me to get in and out. When I open the scissor-door up, it’s a little heavy, so if it’s inconvenient, I don’t raise the door and open it sideways to get in and out”.
She is considering installing a hardtop in the future. She also plans to have the fun of the S660 by driving it on the Tsukuba Circuit.
