Nostalgic wheels that symbolize the history of Weds
TOKYO AUTO SALON 2024 was held from January 12 to 14. A 1973 Nissan SUNNY equipped with RACING FORG, the first forged 3-piece wheels in Japan reproduced with modern precision/elaborate technology by Weds, a famous wheel manufacturer, was on display. Looking back on the 60th anniversary of the company’s founding, a variety of wheels from the era were also showcased, so many galleries, especially old car fans, stopped in front of the Weds booth where the RACING FORG TORII SUNNY was placed.
RACING FORG was revived to celebrate Weds 60th anniversary
WEDS launched Japan’s first custom wheel, the Elster, in 1969, and began selling Japan’s first forged aluminum 3-piece wheel, the RACING FORG, in 1977. Since then, as a pioneer of custom wheels, Weds has always developed innovative products with a keen sense of the times while maintaining superior quality, and has always led the industry.
As a leading manufacturer of custom wheels, the company continues to take on the challenge of contributing to automotive society and fulfilling the dreams of car enthusiasts, and as part of this and its 60th anniversary project, it has revived the RACING FORG.
The wheels mounted on the RACING FORG TORII SUNNY are weds RACING FORG NR, 13 x 8.0-7 in the front and 13 x 9.0-18 in the rear. The RACING FORG, aluminum wheels exclusively for racing (not for use on public roads), is available in two faces/three types: the red NR, as well as the gold FG (dish model) and NG (4-spoke with the same design as the NR), all with the same inch, rim width and inset, They all share the same inch, rim width, and inset, and have 4 holes and a P.C.D. of 114.3.
The development of this reissue was focused on reproducing the original design as faithfully as possible. While the original model had forged discs and rims, the reissue model uses forged discs and cast rims. The evolution of materials and machining precision has resulted in a dramatic increase in strength. In addition, the design was made with careful attention to detail, including the use of special rims to accommodate today’s race slick tires, which have a higher carcass rigidity.
You can see a B110 Sunny equipped with Weds RACING FORG at the JCCA, a classic car race, and you can check the rim feel that only 3-piece wheels can provide at the circuit paddock.
