The Minicab is used as a daily leg to work!

On Saturday 24 February 2024, the second “Kei-truck & Super Cub Meeting” was held in Ibaraki Prefecture. From the venue of this unique event organized by a group of Super Cub enthusiasts, we present the 25-year-old owner of a 1982 Mitsubishi 3rd generation ‘Minicab’, which he utilizes for everyday driving.

Restored with his brother

“I love old kei-trucks, and two years ago I took in an immobile Mitsubishi Minicab from an acquaintance. It’s a 1982 model for farming / 4WD specification, model L015G. I was aiming for a minicab with this face, and I was lucky to find one.”

The owner, Sakashita, is 25 years old and shares this minicab with his 30-year-old brother, who uses it as a daily driver and also drives it to work. Incidentally, he also bought a 1982 Honda Motra, a popular wild 50cc leisure bike, when he was in high school and used it as his transport to and from school.

“I gave the Motra away once I stopped commuting to school, but to my surprise, the later owner found out I had owned it through social networking and said, ‘You should have it’, so he gladly gave it to me. So I came back. This is the very Motora I drove when I was in high school. It’s a strange fate.”

“The Minicab that came with the Motra is difficult to find parts for, but the most memorable episode was when my brothers and I restored the immobilized vehicle and got it back on the road. We removed the cargo bed, painted the frame, and painted the cabin section.”

A car friend gave him information about the Minicab, and he secured two 4WD-spec parts cars for restoration. By combining the three vehicles, they have created a Minicab that can be used as everyday footwear.
