Retro design meets the outdoors

The new ATRAI FUZZ from DAMD, which coordinates cars tastefully and fashionably, was on display at Osaka Auto Messe 2024 (OAM). The design concept this time is ‘retro design x outdoor’. It was a vehicle that strongly reminded us of the good old days of vintage America.

Atrai Fuzz was developed for Atrai

As with the Daihatsu Hijet body kit, the Atrai Fuzz was developed for its sibling, the Daihatsu Atrai. The wagons and deck vans were presented to us.

Both kits consist of a face change kit consisting of a bonnet, grille, bumper, and wings, combined with a rear bumper.

The four square headlights that significantly change the front face are made with a strong awareness of vintage American cars. The design is reminiscent of the Chevrolet Chevy Van, which was popular in the 1970s and is still popular today.

We spoke to DAMD’s design team about what they focused on.

“The slightly pointed center section is in respect of the Chevrolet Chevy of yesteryear. The front grille and four corner headlights are made by Koito, a genuine parts supplier.”

It is also noteworthy that halogen lights were dared to be used to enhance the classical mood, with the upper section being the low-beam position and the lower section being the high-beam. The use of genuine Daihatsu parts for the indicator lenses also expresses the high quality of the custom car.
