Two generations enjoy the new and old Skyline

At the venue where many Nissan cars were participating, we heard that there was an owner whose both father and son were Nissan “Skyline” drivers, so we immediately went to talk to him. Then, we found a father and son who were driving a “2000GT” and an “RS Turbo”. Which one is which? They introduced me to the Skyline, which they both said they had longed to own.

They are Mr. “Sora” and Mr. “Oyaji”, father and son, who entered with a 1971 Skyline 2000GT and a 1983 Skyline RS Turbo. When we asked them about their cars, we were told that the 2000GT belonged to the son, “Sora,” and the RS Turbo belonged to the father, “Oyaji.” This was the opposite of what we had imagined. Let’s start with that part of the story.

The pulse of the 4-valve DOHC Nissan engine

“I have always had an interest in historic cars, and I used to go to old car events in Itoigawa from long ago,”

says the father, Mr. “Oyaji”, but as he visited the events every year, it was inevitable that he would want to own a historic car himself. The Skyline RS has always been a “dream car” of his ever since the new car debuted, and only recently did he finally acquire one.

“I was so happy to get it, I even went touring to Aomori right after I bought it.”

After all, the appeal of the car is the pulse of the 4-valve DOHC engine, which is a first for Nissan in a long time. The car is in great shape, and since he got it, he has been touring and participating in events, enjoying his historic car hobby. He is glad he took the plunge and got it.

His son Mr. “Sora” was born in 1999 and is just 25 years old. As mentioned above, his beloved car is a 1971 Skyline 2000GT.

“I got this car on, um, December 19, 2020!”

He quickly confirms the data on the day of delivery by manipulating his smartphone crisply. He is indeed a young man. In terms of the year, the car is about 30 years before he was born, right?

“Since I was a child, my father took me to many old car events, so when I think of cars, I’m most familiar with the crispy ones from this era. Of course, the L20 GT I got was quite expensive, but I had been longing for one for as long as I can remember, so I took the plunge.”

Mr. “Sora”‘s day job is as a mechanic, and since he also works on heavy machinery such as construction equipment, he is also very good at maintaining his car. His Skyline is in almost stock condition, except for the Hayashi Street wheels and down-suspension to lower the ride height a little. His father’s gifted education must have paid off.
