Fully original 2000GT customized to comfortable specifications

A serious problem for the old car community these days is soaring prices. For fans of old cars, not only are used cars becoming harder to find, but there are fewer and fewer in good condition, which is not a good thing. Mr. Hiraishi has been searching for a “Hakosuka” for many years and obtained a highly original Nissan “Skyline 2000GT”. What kind of modification is unique to Hakosuka fans?

He admired his father’s Hakosuka

Old cars gather at Okutama Lake in Tokyo early on the third Sunday of every month. We focus on one of the cars we came across in the parking lot of Okutama. This time we will introduce the owner of a highly original Nissan “Skyline 2000GT”.

We found Mr. Hiraishi who owns a highly original 1972 2000GT. He is a Skyline enthusiast who owns two other DR30s. This Hakosuka was finally found and acquired about 2 years ago after many years of searching for a fully original 2000GT.

“My father drove the same 1972 Hakoska. The one I just found was also a 1972 model, so I decided to buy it. I think my love of Skyline started with my father’s Hakosuka.”

Equipped with a rare factory cooler

Mr. Hiraishi acquired the last model of Hakosuka, manufactured in November 1972. The body parts are highly original, and both the interior and exterior are in original condition. It is a rare vehicle that originally had a factory cooler, and has a factory vent between the dash and center console.

The engine compartment is also basically stock, except for a few plug cord changes. The sight of the Hakosuka with its hood open and stock carburetor and air cleaner installed looks conversely fresh. Even the bulkheads and engine hoses are kept in very clean condition. You can feel Mr. Hiraishi’s love for this car.

Comfortable driving with detailed modifications

Based on such a superb machine, Mr. Hiraishi has modified every part of the car to make it comfortable to drive. First, he installed electric power steering. The air conditioner compressor was also updated to a rotary type. All of these modifications reduce the load on the engine, while adding or enhancing comfort equipment.

Also, the wheels that appear to be stock are BRE aluminum wheels that look like steel wheels. By making these unobtrusive modifications in various areas, the car is more comfortable to drive than stock.

“I want to install the Weber carb that was on my father’s car. It would change the atmosphere of the engine compartment, but this is the only thing I yearn for. As long as I can keep the stock parts, I can restore them, so I would like to do that soon.”
