Morning meeting held on Sunday

A PIT Autobacs Shinonome in Tokyo holds a monthly morning meeting on Sunday mornings. We spoke with the owner of a bright red Z32 “Fairlady Z” that caught our attention in the free atmosphere of the meeting, where there were no rules other than the taking of group photos.

A present from herself on her 40th birthday

Naomi is the owner of a 1990 Nissan “Fairlady Z 2by2TT” that she purchased herself as a 40th birthday present. Her children have grown up, and at the age of 40, she decided to switch from a Honda “Step Wagon” to do what she likes to do for the other half of her life.

“My best friend’s father had one when I was a kid, and I asked him to let me ride in the back seat one time. That’s when I thought it was cool. I had been looking for a Z for about 3 years, and one day, as I was leaving the car dealerships, I went to look at one more nearby and saw this Z. I sat down and thought, ‘This is it. When I sat down, I thought, ‘This is it,’ and I put down a deposit on the spot.”

It’s a lot of fun.

Naomi has had a Fairlady Z in her memory since childhood. She only rode in the back seat at the time, but what were her impressions when she owned one herself and held the steering wheel in the driver’s seat?

“At first, the car didn’t move at all the way I wanted it to, and I was whining about how I didn’t want to drive it anymore, but the dealer helped me adjust the clutch and other things, and changed the car to specifications that made it easier for me to drive. Once I got used to the car, it was a lot of fun.”

“The twin turbochargers start to kick in at around 2000 rpm, and from there the acceleration is very smooth, so I drive safely and try not to let the turbochargers kick in too much.”

“I want to go everywhere”

Since purchasing the car, she has made some minor adjustments to the car, such as removing the auto antenna, adding an emblem to the B-pillar, and making the car keyless to prevent fingernail marks, but she intends to keep the FAIRLADY Z stock and maintain it in the future. She would like to keep this FAIRLADY Z stock in the future.

“I want to keep the original look of the car, so I’ve done my best to keep the tattered stickers and such. I’ve been to quite a few places with this car, and I want to go to all the places I can go by myself. I want to go to all the places where I can drive on my own.”
