The amount of parts coming out of the garage and shed is unbelievable!
We have mentioned on AMW that a 1991 Nissan “Pulsar GTI-R” from Samurai Speed of Japan has been preparing to compete in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, with the final held on June 23, 2024, in Colorado, USA. Unfortunately, for various reasons, we were unable to drive the car this time, but we were able to meet some passionate Pulsar owners in Colorado Springs, a town at the base of Pikes Peak.
33 years ago he was thrilled by Pulsar’s run!
The Nissan Pulsar GTI-R was entered from Japan for the 102nd Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, and Mr. Kamiko, who had competed in Pikes Peak 33 years ago, entered his Pulsar GTI-R for a second attempt at Pikes Peak. Unfortunately, he was unable to bring his car to Colorado due to customs clearance, so he will not be competing in the 2024 event, but is currently making all the necessary arrangements to compete in the 2025 event.
When Mr. Ryan Wolfe heard that a Pulsar GTI-R from Japan would be competing at Pikes Peak, he contacted Mr. Kamiko. Mr. Ryan, who lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where Pikes Peak is located, went to Pikes Peak when he was 12 years old to watch the race, and he had seen Mr. Kamiko in action.
A third Pulsar is scheduled to arrive shortly !?
Today, Mr. Ryan has started a social networking group called “United States Nissan Pulsar GTi-R Owners” to exchange information daily. Ryan’s suggestion made it possible for us to visit him at his home this time.
When we visited him, we found a Subaru “BAJA” (a pickup truck based on the Legacy Lancaster) in front of his house (and in his backyard), and a red “H” tattoo on his arm, which at first glance may not seem to be associated with a Pulsar GTI-R, The amount of parts that come out from all over the garage and storage room is unbelievable. Even he mentioned that there are some places where it is doubtful that anything can be found. It is an image of an abundance of genuine new parts and aftermarket parts that are difficult to obtain nowadays. He even says that he has enough parts for three cars.
The car that caught my attention was ……, a car in a simple carport built in the backyard. This one is undergoing a full restoration, he said. Currently, all the rusted parts have been repaired, and the insulators on the floor have been removed, leaving the car in white body condition, just before it is brought in for painting.
Of course, it’s not just this one car. There is another one on a corner of his father’s ranch. And a third Pulsar GTI-R will be on its way to him soon.
Why the Pulsar GTI-R? Mr. Ryan told us.
“I’ve wanted one since 1991, when I first saw it at Pikes Peak, and I think the GTI-R is a special car that interests other people and interests me in different ways. I am currently restoring it myself because I can’t find a store that I can trust to restore it to the level I want. Does my family understand? My wife knows how much love I have for this car, and she is encouraging me to do so.”
Mr. Kamiko, who plans to compete in Pikes Peak in a Pulsar GTI-R, commented:
“With him here, I don’t have to worry about anything happening to me when I compete.”
