A unique style based on a rare color

GT-R Magazine is a specialist magazine dedicated to the Nissan Skyline GT-R / Nissan GT-R. This time we visited CREWCH in Mie Prefecture, which has been increasing its presence in the GT-R market in recent years. We introduce Mr Jun Ogura, owner of a 2008 R35 GT-R. Why did he buy a GT-R for himself when he first came to buy a car for his son?

He took over the collection of Representative Kuruuchi and gave it his love

“Maybe if I hadn’t gone to see cars with my son, I would never have had a sports car in my life.”

Ogura, who said he had only driven minivans for more than 20 years, bought his R35 GT-R in 2020. He visited CREWCH to accompany his child in his search for a Mazda Roadster, but when he saw the GT-Rs lined up on the premises, he suddenly felt the urge to drive one. In the end, it was Jun, not his son, who bought the car at CREWCH.

Initially, the R33 GT-R was a candidate, taking budget considerations into account, but the company’s representative, Yoshihiko Kuruuchi, advised that “if you use it for daily commuting, the R35 would be a safer ride”, and that changed the course of action. When he told Kuruuchi that he wanted a gold-toned car, he was offered a rare Premium Edition in Titanium Grey body color with a light grey interior. It was the first R35 Mr Kuruchi drove, and he took it over on the condition that he would take good care of it.

Although the vehicle was completely stock, Mr Ogura’s passion for customizing the GT-R, which he had also done on his minivan, has not cooled down, and he is currently working on various things, mainly on the exterior, to make it a car of his liking.

The front face has been replaced with a mid-term bumper with built-in daylights, and the commonly known ‘lightning bolt headlights’ adopted from the 2014 model year onwards have been installed. This was complemented by an endless front lip for a more aggressive look. The side diffusers, rear over wings, and rear under bumper were coordinated by Top Secret. The reason for not using the same color as the body was due to concerns that it would be difficult to match the color with the body, which has deteriorated over time. The black color makes the parts look as if they are clad in armor.

“At first we chose titanium grey to avoid being too obvious, but now it doesn’t make much sense. There are still things we want to do in the future, such as installing a GT wing and ringtails and increasing the boost.”

“The GT-R is a car that inspires me to do things this way and that,” says Ogura. The appeal of the GT-R is that it lives up to your expectations as you make modifications. Mr Ogura will continue to pour his love into his R35.
