Customized cargo area of the Hiace in the owner’s style
“HIACE style” is a magazine for Toyota Hiace riders This time, the AMW editorial department focused on the car of “Kawamoto Equipment”, a Type 6 rider who showed us his customized cargo space.
Luggage space optimized for electrical work and his hobby of bass fishing
Owner “Kawamoto Setsubi” first bought his 200 Series Hiace 10 years ago. He bought the Type 3 not for work, but for his hobby of bass fishing. When he became independent as a sole electrician six years ago, he converted it to work use. The Type 3 had oil leakage problems as the mileage increased, so he switched to this Type 6 three years ago.
Although most of the luggage space is occupied by tools for work, he continues bass fishing and carries rods and tackles. The exterior, dressed up with aero parts, has been lowered 2 inches with over wings and 18-inch wheels. The stylish Hiace would not be a work vehicle if it did not have a luggage space full of tools.
Tools of various sizes are mounted on simple shelves that have been used since the Type 3
The upper part of the shelf in the cargo area, at the back left, holds a PVC pipe for wiring and a stepladder + dolly. The dolly is often used to transport tools to the site. The power tools (rechargeable screwdriver + single wire crimpers) at the back right of the upper shelf are used to save time, but are placed at the back because they are rarely used.
The red basket purchased at a home center is full of rubbish bags/caulking/tapes/tools etc. In the basket at the front are switches, sockets, and screws. The right wall side holds power drills/impacts etc. At the back left of the floor is a label writer + vibration drill. The left wall side holds TV monitors and other small items. Randomly stuffed into the cloth buckets are spares for special tools and frequently used tools, making for a very lean arrangement.
Stacked on the left side of the floor is a stack of wiring, used for interior wiring in new construction and renovation. Underneath the shelves are wire ropes to run the wiring. Above this is an additional shelf for fishing-related equipment. Further placed above the wiring is a bellow pipe for the wiring. Waist tools/energization checkers/military gloves are stored at the front as they are essential items on site.
If the site is a house or apartment building under construction, helmets are sometimes worn to carry out electrical work, so they are always available. A sheet is laid on top of the added mat, and tackle boxes and other items are placed on top of this when going out fishing:
Right. Safety shoes are also provided as they may be needed on some sites. On top of the rear seat are work-related documents, and behind the seat are car-washing tools ready for use.
Looking at the exterior, the BACK9 Lightspeed wheels are a one-off paint job in Type 2 Hiace stock gunmetal. The inset is +20 to be flush with the over wings. The cockpit area was given a sporty finish with Recaro seats and a boost gauge.
