1000 HP Nissan R32 Skyline GT-R Revived After 10 Years

Demonstration car built for the Osaka Auto Messe

We would like to introduce you to the R32 exhibited by Screen, a professional shop in eastern Japan, at the Osaka Auto Messe 2023 held at Intex Osaka from February 10 to 12, 2023.

Simple on the outside, but assertive on the inside

Pro shop Screen also operates “D2 Japan”, a well-known brake manufacturer, displayed the 1991 R32 Skyline GT-R.

The RAYS VOLK RACING TE37 wheels in white were mounted on the R32 GT-R. Gun Gray Metallic body color with the D2 logo and checkered decals, but no fancy aero parts were installed. The large rear spoiler, a symbol of the GT-R, was removed and replaced with a solid wing.

Reviving the R32 after a hiatus of about 10 years

The R32 GT-R debuted in 1989, the shop bought this R32 in 2003 and built it to run 0-400m on a local circuit, but the circuit was closed in 2013, and it sat in the garage for about 10 years. Then rebuilding began in late 2022.

The engine was originally built with the HKS 2.8L STEP2 kit, and although it had not been run for a long time, the engine started on the first shot. The turbine was changed from HKS T51R to GTIII-5R and the engine was re-set with a fully controlled F-CON V-Pro ver 3.4 computer. As a result, “maximum power 1003hp at 7364rpm” and “maximum torque 109kgm at 4855rpm” were recorded by Dynapack.

RB26 will continue to evolve by introducing the latest items

“It is not very difficult to achieve 1000hp with the R35 VR38DETT, but 1000hp with the RB26DETT is quite a hurdle. We used the latest parts and computers, but the most effective was the HKS Trigger Kit (Crank Angle Sensor Conversion Kit). The stock system senses crank angle and engine RPM on the cam side, but the HKS kit is a system that can also sense engine RPM on the end of the crankshaft. This allows for an accurate RPM signal in the high rpm range so that the ignition map is not disturbed. Previously, the RPM signal would wobble when turning up to 9000 rpm, but with the use of the trigger kit, the signal is now firm and stable. As a result, the extension between 7000 and 9000 rpm became sharper, and both the feel and the power increased.”

Can it run normally at 1000 rpm?

It has variable valve timing (HKS V-Cam System Pro), so it doesn’t falter at low and medium rpm. The transmission is equipped with HKS’s H-pattern dog transmission, so it can be used for normal city driving.

It is an old story that hard tuning is fragile and hard to drive. With the latest parts and tuner know-how, the R32 GT-R can overlap the R35.
