Purchased a RWD sport because he likes drifting
The Miyagi 86/BRZ Meeting, now in its second year, is an event that started in 2023 with the desire to create a place where owners can casually gather with other owners, regardless of whether they are fully stock or tuned. In 2024, as many as 150 new and old Toyota 86s and Subaru BRZs participated. Among these Tohoku-centric owners, we would like to introduce one car of interest.
Introduced the suspension that he was particular about
Mr. Onozaki says that he originally liked drifting and wanted to drive an RWD sports car. Although many of his friends were driving 86/BRZs, he chose the GR86, which was in the minority, so that he would not be seen with anyone else. He also chose a red body color, which was rarely seen among his friends. After taking delivery of the car, he said, “I did it on the spur of the moment! He has been customizing the suspension before he even got his “beginner’s mark”.
The ride height adjustable dampers chosen after examining the specs were Ideal’s TRUEVA, which is positioned as an entry model from the manufacturer’s point of view, and while keeping the price low, is equipped with 36-level damping force adjustment and aluminum upper mounts, with high enough specs to satisfy even intermediate to advanced customizers. The spring rate is 10 kg/mm in the front and 12 kg/mm in the rear with 2.5 kg/mm helper, which provides both styling and soft ride comfort, and even with low-profile tires such as 40 or 35, the driver can enjoy a comfortable drive with little thrust.
The ideal wheel, TE37SL, will be introduced soon!
The wheels adorning the undercarriage are Weds BVILLENS XXR with slim twin spokes for a sharp look, 8.5J x 18 INSET35 on the front and 9.5J x 18 INSET35 on the rear. Although he loves the design of these wheels, Mr. Onozaki has always wanted to have wheels of his own. It is the Volk Racing TE37SL by Reyes, and he has already found a way to acquire it. He has decided on front and rear 9.5J x 18 INSET 45 wheels, and should be able to see his new look come August. The fenders have been claw-folded to accommodate the wheels, and CUSCO adjustable lower arms have been installed in the rear. The camber can be set to a maximum of 13 degrees, and the car has been driven in this condition, but the tires are now set back to 9 degrees due to excessive uneven tire wear.
The GR86 is evolving at an ongoing pace
One more interesting customization is the muffler. It is not uncommon to see a combination of a GP Sports muffler in the middle and a Be Free tail, but when the ZN6 muffler was to be used as is, the left side slightly interfered with the body, so they boldly decided to modify the body side and install it.
For the interior, they are aiming to install Bride’s full buckets, which are appropriate for a sports car, and the popular Jita III model on both sides. Currently, the car is equipped with seatbelt protectors from a brand launched by Manabu Orido. He is also proud of his autograph, which was written by Orido himself at the Tokyo Auto Salon. Mr. Onozaki is running down the customization road with youth and vigor, and we look forward to seeing what kind of evolution he will have achieved the next time we see him.
