The Ultimate Revamp: Exploring the RWB Porsche 911 Carrera’s Makeover

A car painted entirely in Mexican blue and finished to look like new

On 8 March 2024, a Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe by RWB was offered at auction in Dubai by RM Sotheby’s. The 911 Carrera featured in the auction was given a white body and customization after arriving in Dubai. The words ‘HIDEYOSHI’ were painted on both the left and right side doors, completed with dynamically shaped aero parts by RWB.

More than 60 years have already passed since the Porsche 911 was born. The air-cooled models such as the 964 911, which was born at the end of the 1980s, and its successor, the 993 911, are already gaining in value as classic models. The 911 is now becoming more and more popular among all generations. This means that there is sure to be a great deal of interest in how they are restored or tuned.

The model presented here at the RM Sotheby’s Dubai auction is based on a 1995 911 Carrera and was finished in Iris Blue Metallic exterior livery and blue and grey interior at the time of delivery. It was shipped to Ohio, USA, and then moved to Florida, but found a safe home in Maryland with a new owner in 2006; CARFIX reports that during this time it was involved in a collision that caused minor damage to the front end, but after repairs, in 2016 it was sold to a collector in the United Arab Emirates and exported from Los Angeles in October of that year.

After arriving in Dubai, the model underwent a complete cosmetic refresh by the Japanese Porsche tuner RAUH-Welt BEGRIFF. Often referred to as RWB for short, the team has a history of drifting and racing in the past (the team name at this time was Rough World, the English name under which Rauh-Welt was formed). The shop was established in 1997 in Kashiwa, Chiba, by Kei Nakai, who is also known as BEGRIFF (BEGRIFF means Concept), and specializes mainly in classic 911s. He has a particularly strong passion for air-cooled 911s, and his work is always carried out stoically until he is satisfied with his own work.

“Hideyoshi” is written on the body side

The 911 Carrera also arrived in Dubai and was first stripped of its paint until it was white-bodied, before being repainted in a bright Mexican blue. The interior is a beautiful combination of black leather and Alcantara, and of course, the finish is of such a high standard that it could be described as new.

In June 2021, Japanese street artist Roam Couch, who is known for his free wall art in and around the town of Anpachi in Gifu Prefecture, will paint a stencil of Hideyoshi Toyotomi on both the left and right doors, with the words HIDEYOSHI and Hideyoshi. The car was completed with dynamically shaped aero parts by RWB.

In October 2021, the car underwent maintenance by the Alex Lena Motors garage in Dubai to change the engine oil, oil filter, fuel filter, pollen filter, spark plugs, and engine belt, but no other condition issues were found. The engine was also serviced by a motor garage that replaced the engine oil, oil filter, fuel filter, pollen filter, spark plugs, and engine belt. We wonder how Kei Nakai’s purposeful work of art will fare at the auction.

For reference, the expected bidding price was USD 150,000-200,000, but the actual bidding price was USD 120,750. However, if the existence of the RWB becomes more widely known, the price is bound to rise further and further. The auction was a reminder of the same feeling as that of a painting.
