The finish was recognized by old car owners
Nissan Automobile Technical College is known for producing high-profile customized cars, and at the Nostalgic 2 Days event in February 2024, students from the customization department displayed the ‘SETO’ and ‘I’m march’, which have many old car elements. This section looks at the unique customization points of the students, which surprised the teaching staff.
‘I’m march’ incorporates the students’ taste in fashion
The Nissan Automobile Technical College exhibited two vehicles, the SETO and I’m march, at the Nostalgic 2 Days held at Pacifico Yokohama on 17-18 February 2024. The two vehicles have already been featured in various media, so we took a closer look at the customization points unique to the students, which surprised the teaching staff.
Let’s start with ‘I’m march’. This vehicle was based on the K11 March Cabriolet, with the SR311 Datsun Fairlady as its motif.
The teachers thought that if the emphasis was on the SR311 Fairlady’s atmosphere, a modern GT wing would not be fitted. However, the students put in a taste of the modern driving style. This is evident in the seats, whereas they would normally have opted for bucket seats to match the old car, they opted for the latest Recaro full bucket seats.
And the teachers were most surprised by the wheels. RS Watanabe is the standard for this type of customization, but the students chose Rays TE37s. The white-colored TE37s were an excellent match for the fashionable light blue body color chosen by the female students.
Because of the students’ sense of coordination, the motifs of the famous Fairlady cars of yesteryear and modern customization elements were mixed perfectly.
The aim was to create a modern “pike car”, the SETO
The SETO, which aims to be a ‘modern’ pike car, is based on the Cube and incorporates the design of the 410 Bluebird. The wing lines are also very particular and artistic. It seems to be a relatively orthodox customization of an old car taste, but the students’ particularity is evident in the headlights.
The headmaster and other teachers thought the halogen headlights looked good. The students, however,
“We want to build a modern pike car! Halogen is so old-fashioned!”
They said, and adopted LED headlights. Instead of the rounded light pattern typical of the round eyes of old cars, they opted for a straight light pattern, which gave the car more of an impression of a person’s eyes. These headlights were diverted from those for motorbikes.
Well received by old car enthusiasts
This is actually the first time that Nissan Automobile Technical College has exhibited at Nostalgic 2 Days. Therefore, they were a little afraid of what kind of reaction they would receive from old car owners and fans ……. However, when they actually exhibited, they received a good impression.
“How are these fitted?”
“What parts are you using?”
They were also impressed that there were more specific questions than at other shows. They also received many positive reactions from old car owners. This can be said to be proof that the student’s unique sense of style was also recognized by real old car owners. It will be interesting to see what kind of customized cars they produce in the future.
