KUHL JAPAN’s GT-R: Crafting the R35 2024 EDITION WIDE BODY – OAM’s Ultimate Showpiece?

The aero parts will be made commercially available

Every year at the Osaka Auto Messe, the most popular exhibiting vehicle is awarded the Grand Prix, and exhibiting booths are presented with special awards and trophies as voted by the general public during the show. The winner of the 2024 dress-up and tuning car popular vehicle contest is “35R-2024EDITION WIDE BODY”, a new concept model based on the Nissan GT-R by KUHL JAPAN.

35R-2024EDITION WIDE BODY, the most popular model at OAM

The “35R-2024 EDITION WIDE BODY” was exhibited by KUHL JAPAN at the Osaka Auto Messe (OAM) 2024 and attracted the audience’s total attention. This vehicle’s main point of interest is the shape of the front bumper, reminiscent of the 2024 model from which it takes its name. By making the front face unique to the 2024 model with daylights, a new taste can be infused into the older model.

This aero can be fitted to all years of the R35 from the first model to the 2024 model, but the press line leading to the bonnet was changed in 2017, so the company is offering two different front bumpers and bonnets with different lines. Note that the vehicle on display in gold is event-specific, with one-off canards of 11 cm on each side of the bumper.

Turning to the rear, a four-pronged central muffler catches the eye, and the bumper is also designed to match this, and features a huge diffuser.

As the name ‘widebody’ implies, the wings have been widened to allow wider tires than the standard size to be fitted. The front wings are interchangeable, while the rear is a stick-on type. The wide width is 30 mm per side for both the front and rear (can be fitted without body modifications).

While the wheels and other parts are in the classic style, the overall image of the vehicle is a fusion of old and new, including the canard presentation.

Made in Osaka custom car

This is the third time that KUHL JAPAN has won the Grand Prix in the same OAM competition. All of the awards have been won with the GT-R. President Takahiro Kataoka commented as follows.

“First of all, I would like to thank everyone who voted. The scale of the exhibition was the largest ever, and we are truly grateful to have received the Grand Prix from among the 660 vehicles exhibited. The aero parts for this 35R are truly made in Osaka at our Yao factory. We will continue to do our best to showcase our high-quality customized cars in 2025!

The venue where the awards were presented this time was KUHL DEPARTURE. It is an unstaffed showroom where visitors can view the vehicles of their choice for 120 minutes free of charge, and is the first in the industry to have a car vending machine, with sofas on the second floor to sit comfortably and relax. It also features a turntable that can be used as a rental studio where vehicles can be brought in and viewed from any 360-degree angle. It can be booked via the website.

In addition, the production model will be front and rear bumpers, fenders, and sides. Owners eagerly awaiting the release will have to wait a little longer.
