Why did he select the Titan?
Have you heard of the Titan, which is built and sold by Nissan in North America? It was Nissan’s first full-size pick-up truck and the first generation was introduced in 2003. We asked the owner of a 2006 model about why he chose it and his honest opinion on the body design.
One of the key points is the availability of parts in Japan
Mr. Kenji Fukazawa participated in the all-genre American car meet “K-Styles” held in Tochigi Prefecture, on Sunday 14 April 2024 with his 2006 Nissan Titan, a so-called re-imported vehicle that is not officially sold in Japan. When it comes to reimported pick-up trucks, we see many Toyota vehicles such as the Toyota Tacoma and Tundra, but why the Nissan Titan?
“I used to have a pick-up truck, but I gave it away. Then I went to the SEMA show in Las Vegas around 2014 and saw a lot of big trucks and I wanted to drive one again. Someone I didn’t like was driving a Tundra, so I bought a Titan to compete with him.”
Mr. Fukazawa used to drive a Chevrolet ‘Avalanche’. He then switched to a Toyota Hiace, but bought the Titan because he wanted to drive a larger pick-up truck again. He chose a Japanese manufacturer because, in addition to the aforementioned reasons, he felt safe.
“I do camping and jet skiing, so I didn’t want it to break down in those situations. I chose Nissan for its peace of mind. They have a good parts supply system, they have the same parts as the Safari, and I thought it would be good in that sense too.”
Idea-packed body design
When the car was purchased, it had only been lifted with a white-colored body, but customisation of the interior and exterior started after delivery. The interior was completely reupholstered in Alcantara and a woofer box was built under the rear seats, with speakers and MTX audio set up to allow for a full ride.
On the exterior, the black wheels have been painted white, and the bed is fitted with a tonneau cover and a rack machined from a Nissan Extrail. And perhaps the most striking feature of this Titan is its livery.
“I was just smoking a certain e-cigarette when I wanted to change the colour. It was a limited edition colour called Neon, and I thought, ‘I like this colour, don’t you? I thought. So I fully wrapped it in this colour.
After that, my friends and I were talking about how we wanted to give it an American look, and when we shared some images, the one that caught my eye was the colouring of “FedEx”, so I made it look like an American transport company. Plus, I think it was a playful idea by a junior colleague of mine, who likes Splatoon, so there’s an ink mark design on it too. It’s a sense of mischief.
